For my Conservatory Capstone project, I picked this comedy because it contains so many elements that I admire about theatre: comedy, deep, emotional moments, complex characters, and even a lovely song at the end. I think this piece is a perfect fit for the final project; it's about twenty minutes in length, it makes the audience laugh (and maybe cry), and it is a unique, well-constructed script. Not only do I have a passion for theatre, but I love writing as well-  and Shanley is like a play-writing hero to me.

Welcome to the Moon is a play about four friends who come back to the Bronx, NY for a reunion in a cheap bar. As tensions rise and emotions are exposed, the alcohol kicks in and chaos ensues. This is a play about love, longing, and discovering one’s true identity.

John Patrick Shanley is a master writer for the stage. He develops these complex and emotional characters, and the relationships and actions between them really lend the way to the drama and chaos that is present in the script. Really find these moments and define them.

In Welcome to the Moon, we find out what it means to be alive. These characters learn to overcome their fears and find their courage. Love is unexpected and love is cruel. I think this play really stands the test of time. Everyone can relate to these characters on some level.

I hope you enjoy the show. Please enjoy responsibly.
